Debut Album Release: Kinds of Sadness

Updated: Mar 23, 2021

Kinds of Sadness is a concept album centred around the varying types of human emotion and sadness. Featuring rich orchestral tracks such as Dream and Intermission, as well as dark ambient synths and layered guitars. This album draws back towards first release POCKET with more raw lyricism and instrumentation.

Kinds of Sadness - Released 03.04.2020 on cassette tapes with 4000 Records & vinyl with False Peak Records, as well as on all digital platforms.

There is a beautiful fragility and delicate resonance that makes this piece completely mesmerizing and endearing. I am immediately reminded of the kind of classic sixties Euro pop of artists like Serge Gainsbourg’s collaborations with Jane Birkin and Bridgette Bardot. ”

- Arun Kendall on the single Romance Me.

Cloud Tangle's debut album takes you down a gritty, bittersweet rabbit hole of introspective reflection and steers you towards an overarching theme of human sadness. Sonically staying true to Cloud Tangle's essence, the album is awash with dark, silky guitar lines, hauntingly beautiful synths, pulsating unobtrusive drums and delicate, dreamy vocals. Balancing dark and light in the unique way in which Amber has perfected during the past 6 years as Cloud Tangle, 'Kinds of Sadness' is a gloomy and mesmerising exploration in slowcore pop.

Underpinned by the recently released singles 'Romance Me' and 'Thinking of Myself', the album's concept centres around the varying types of human emotion and sadness. Featuring rich orchestral tracks as well as dark ambient synths and layered guitars. The album will sonically draw back towards first release 'POCKET' with more raw lyricism and lush instrumentation.

“ There is an imperial, glacial beauty to Cloud Tangle’s new album ‘Kinds of Sadness’ that is breathtaking and euphoric. Cloud Tangle is the work of Brisbane’s Amber Ramsay and it is hard to comprehend that this album was done almost exclusively in Ramsay’s bedroom, bringing to mind another favourite musical genius, Fazerdaze, from New Zealand. "

- Backseat Mafia

Lyrically, Amber serenades us with stories of falling out of love and the hardships of moving on for the sake of your best self. These sombre motifs are carried along by an unassuming drum track and a bass synth line that makes its presence known in a soft but assertive manner. This sentiment was extended in the form of a poetry zine, written by Amber and released with the exclusive run of cassette tapes, which sold out not long after the release.
